Jerome Tay –
Great deal of knowledge shared about Counterstrain, especially for an intro course. Some things that were taught can also be implemented into practice immediately. Haydn was also a great lecturer in delivering the content. Very good value overall and an eye-opener into what is possible in physiotherapy!
Philip Chau –
Overall, the course was very much worth the time and money. Hayden is a great presenter and there was alot of information packed into the weekend. I now have more insight to this alternative treatment option that I’ll start to apply in my practice.
becjohns –
Super interesting topics and only one day post the course have already started using the techniques in clinical practice. Haydn is very knowledgeable and able to explain some pretty content heavy things in a more digestible way.
The coloured manual is fantastic and can see that being a useful referral guide in the future.
I definitely recommend this course for phyios especially ones that are manual therapy based but are finding their hands and body starting to feel the strain of being heavy handed – these techniques are powerful without the body toll on the practitioner.
Hayley Johns –
This course exceeded my expectations. I had booked seeking new assessment and treatment techniques and was provided with a straightforward, whole body assessment procedure as well as a thorough introduction to counterstrain.
The counterstrain background and theory is very well presented. Haydn provides enough detail that you understand the theory behind indirect treatment, while also keeping the theory component succinct and not overwhelming. Especially as a recent graduate with a background in Maitland and direct treatment techniques getting my head around the paradigm shift. The practical component of the course was excellent allowing all techniques to be practiced while maintaining efficiency over the weekend.
This course has definitely sparked my interest in CS techniques. With the amount of theory and techniques I have, though, I am content to use this knowledge alone for the rest of the year before feeling as if I need to look into further courses. Which is an excellent outcome for me and those who are not looking at spending excessive amounts of money each year on PD.
When asked how I found the course by colleagues and friends I can only sum it up as “mind blowing.”
Thanks so much Haydn! It was a great weekend full of knowledge.
Vito La Spina –
A very comprehensive course.
Starting with the importance of having good assessment skills. Enabling one to develop the skills to use the correct techniques and draw valid conclusions.
Even after 23 years in practice I still found this course to be quite useful.
There is emphasis on evidence based approaches and attention to detail on technique was given.
Thank you Haydn
Adam Poetsch –
Not all patient presentations are musculoskeletal or neural tension and usually there is an underlying root cause that gets missed in treatment. This course helps provide a framework and methodology to better understand and manage patient presentations from a simple ankle sprain to more complex chronic conditions.
This course is essential for any physiotherapist or allied health practitioner looking to expand their knowledge past the limitations of the current health system. The concepts are pretty fundamental to more effectively treating patients with a more holistic approach.
The course content and structure were well planned and executed by Haydn. His skill and knowledge in this field is exceptional, and he was able to to convey some complex concepts with relative ease.
In terms of delivery, the course could be improved by having more time and focus on practitioners mastering the subtlety of gentle positioning and feeling soft tissue feedback. All practitioners need to get better at this prior to undertaking the techniques, otherwise it may render the techniques themselves less effective and hence devalue the concepts as they are perceived as less effective.
Overall, a brilliant course. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge over more offerings.
wordofman –
The course is excellent, as is the content and work book. However, spelling errors, and incorrect terms or descriptions in the work book were discovered and needed to be changed on the fly. Hadyn is an excellent teacher, but seemed a bit stretched teaching the course by himself. I would recommend the course to anyone wishing to increase their skill base and move away from limits of mobilisation and nonspecific exercises prescription.
cjbrook –
A really good introductory course to some new techniques that I find incredibly helpful for some tricky/complex patients.
Looking forward to completing the following courses also!
leestewartx –
Haydn has an amazing wealth of knowledge. Hand out book is fantastic, I am regularly referring back to techniques. Look forward to the next instalment of this course.
talt –
A great introduction into the techniques of counterstrain, craniosacral therapy and visceral listening techniques. Haydn is extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher. Looking forward to starting to implement some of these techniques into my practice.
Yatesie92 –
Great Course. Hadn’t done any SCS before, this course was a great introduction to the SCS techniques, learnt heaps over the weekend, and great learning experience. I look forward to the next course.
chris.hadji1 –
Thank you very much for a knowledge filled weekend! The balance between the theoretical and practical component was optimum for our learning and I have already used the techniques to success with my clients. Despite the justified smaller evidence base, the methods speak for themselves.
I look forward to the next course!
serinajoy –
Haydn is a very passionate teacher making the course informative and enjoyable. I cant wait to add Counterstrain into my treatment protocol. I felt the in class theory component was too long and could more have been covered in the pre reading. Would prefer the manual to anatomical picture of tender points for ease of reference. Great class size making it easy to work with a range of therapists. Looking forward to completing IMT2 next year.
Loren Price –
Fabulous course, large amount of information taught in an interesting hands on way. SCS offers some really exciting ways of helping my clients. I was able to start incorporating some of the techniques into my practice straight away with positive outcomes.
kphan –
I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 day course, with lots of hands on and demonstrations.
The pre-reading was very relevant to the course and the quiz helped consolidate and highlighted areas of learning. The practical component and clinical applications were demonstrated on course participants and real changes in outcomes could be seen with a pre/post objective assessment. Would have appreciated getting the manual beforehand to go through the course content and better prepare questions to clarify understanding. Would be nice to have anatomical pictures of tender points, rather than just an image of patient/therapist position.
Haydn was a fantastic facilitator. Overall, good intro course combining into assessment and treatment strategies.
janiemacdonald –
Fantastic course – clinical applications were tied in nicely with assessment strategies and treatment techniques. I felt confident using some of the techniques taught in the clinic the next day and can see myself using them daily – they’re effective, results are fast and they’re less physically taxing than a lot of modalities. This course has certainly filled a gap in my treatment “toolbox”
Evolution –
Thank you Haydn for delivering such an informative and gamechanging course. Able to implement it with clients straight away. Lots of techniques covered, with plenty of time for practice. The only improvement would be to include some “X marks the tender point” pictures in the course materials for the visual learners. I also appreciated the attention given to providing a practical client assessment system along with the treatment techniques.
ErinSwan –
Great course taught by a very knowledgable and enthusiastic teacher. So much information in such a short time, but very valuable content. Would’ve loved more time to practice with Haydn’s help.
Julia –
Amazing course, really loved it all – only improvement I could give would be more practical time and less theory time! Looking forward to the following courses!
Nils Gueldemann –
This new technique will be a new tool for my clients. There will be a lot more study and practice
needed to get good at it. Thanks for the introduction Haydn.
Kevinha1992 –
A very enjoyable course. Haydn is a great and passionate teacher and makes this course very interesting. One thing that could be improved about this course is by including pictures diagrams of common tender points in the practical slides so it could be easier to follow.
Abdo –
A great course that adds to your screen and assessment skills and provides immediate results. Looking forward to doing more courses with IMT.
kendallxlb –
This was an excellent course. It was a very practical course which I felt I could use straight away into practice.
Judy –
Excellent course. Would like some more diagrams to enable easier review
Nerissa –
As always a great course presented by Haydn, looking forward to putting IMT 1 into practice and learning more from the rest of the series.
Kate –
Haydn is a great teacher this was my first SCS course it has both theory and lots of practical. The content provided is easily applicable to clinical practice. We went back to our clinic and were amazed at how much we had covered in the 2 days .I cant wait to implement this into my practice and believe it is the way forward for physios wanting a holistic approach, which is gentle on the patient and therapist. Hayden’s manuals are always easy to follow and a great resource for practice when you return to your clinic.

Catherine. April 2017
Just completed IMT1 course on the weekend . I thoroughly enjoyed & highly recommend this course to the folks who are in the Bowen& Massage profession or ones considering . Haydn is an excellent facilitator providing a relaxed quality training environment .
Kim –
A really great start to the series-looking forward to attending more and adding to my treatment skills.
Brent –
I can’t rate Haydn’s courses highly enough. I could go on and on but I think the best testimonial is this: Every time he runs a course in Melbourne, I will be booking it early to make sure I can go.
Every. Single. One.

This course has changed my view in many aspects of manual practice. The course goes through step by step from assess the body to treatment of the common somatic dysfunctions, which is a great guide on how to use or incorporate strain counterstrain into our daily practice.
Nevin –
Haydn is a great teacher and the IMT1 course is a great blend between theory and practical. The content provided is easily applicable to clinical practice. It was also great to fine tune my counterstrain techniques and see it’s great effects.
Byungkyu –
great theory and prac demonstration. I am looking forward to attending IMT2.
Merryn –
It was great learning from Haydn with his endless positivity and enthusiasm to share his knowledge.
hoagster51 –
I really enjoyed the course. Was a fantastic introduction into a variety of different clinical methodologies which would provide instant benefits to my practice and provided a foundation for me to build upon if I wanted to take any of the techniques further. Hayden makes it really easy to see the clinical application of the techniques introduced in the course.
Emma –
Haydn is an excellent teacher and he is teaching some very effective manual therapy techniques that can completely change the way you manage patients. This approach to assessment and treatment makes a lot of sense and is a very effective way of getting excellent long lasting results with your patients.
Adam –
Just wanted to say thank you for a fantastic seminar. Course material was nicely balanced between theory and prac. Having done some counterstrain before it was nice to get some tips on how to fine tune the techniques to get even better results. Haydn is an excellent presenter who is happy to share his knowledge on the subject.
Tegan –
Fantastic course! A good balance of theory and practical components with fantastic tutors to assist with student learning.
Jacqui –
I wanted to wait to do the review to see if I would continue to work with the techniques and concepts once the excitement of the practical had passed. I’m please to report I have been using techniques with both my private and aged care clients. I found it to be one of the better courses I have done for many years. These guys understand teaching – they appreciate the deceptive simplicity of the techniques and help the novice to get the concepts by firstly introducing an assessment approach to help “read” the body and form a hypothesis. Gold for fledgeling practitioners! The whole two days were interesting, inspiring and very well structured.
JOSHUA –
This course was extremely well run with easy to follow instructions, great tutoring and well documented processes. I have always struggled with chronic pain patients and how best to treat them. Having chronic pain issues myself and seeing how much impact this can have on my own issues, I recommend attending this course. the techniques themselves are easily administered and comfortable for the patient and therapist. I look forward to attending more courses in future.
matthew –
I have done some strain counterstrain courses before, but found this one provided a greater clinical approach rather than just a bunch of techniques that you don’t know when to use them. It provided a good amount of immediately usable techniques but not an overload. It gives a good idea of future learnings also but doesn’t try to give too much info all at once that get’s too hard to take in- a great starting point for this style of assessment/treatment.
k.stepputtis@gmail.com –
This course teaches a well structured assessment approach which helps to make sense out of all this sign and symptoms some patients are presenting with. I like the fact that techniques are limited to the most important ones because it gives me the possibility to get confident with what I am doing rather than being overwhelmed and confused.
tanyd001 –
Highly practical course with numerous techniques that can immediatly be incorporated into daily practice
Julie –
This course gives a great background to why we do certain assessments and what evidence is behind them. It would be a great start for any clinician including new graduate.
Alyssa –
This is a terrific course if you feel like you have too many options with patients, and where in the world do you start? Very valuable for providing a systematic approach. I have done multiple courses with MTI and they have provided some of the most valuable approaches to my practice. I’m a pelvic floor physiotherapist, but working with MTI over the years has turned me into a manual therapist as well.
mshutch –
This course covered a large amount of detail which was fascinating and enlightening. I am now able to utilise this new knowledge and skills with my clients and I look forward to the next course.
Thank you Haydn for a very enjoyable weekend.
